Different stages of the event cycle drive different outcomes. For example, an on-sale announcement typically goes to a larger audience and may see slightly lower opens/clicks but higher attributed revenue, while a know-before-you-go email goes to fewer contacts and often earns higher engagement but lower revenue (since most recipients have already purchased).
Campaign tagging helps you label emails and SMS' by campaign type so you can compare like-for-like performance and make smarter marketing decisions.
How campaign tagging works
When you create an email or SMS campaign, Hive automatically assigns a campaign tag based on the content. From the main email and SMS tables, you can click the tag to edit it or add additional tags after the campaign has been sent.
Campaign tags include on-sale announcement, pre-sale, on sale, last change, pre-show, post-show, newsletter, other, and uncategorized.
Pro tip: Keep tags consistent so comparisons are meaningful.
Custom sub-tags
Hive now supports custom campaign sub-tags, which let you create your own labels underneath the primary lifecycle categories (such as Pre-Sale, On-Sale, Announcement, etc.).
Check out our tutorial video on using sub-tags!
Sub-tags give you more flexibility to organize campaigns by venue, genre, series, team, priority segment, sponsor, template, or anything else that fits your workflow.
How to use sub-tags in campaigns
Open the Email or SMS campaign page
Click the campaign tag next to the campaign.
Choose a primary category (if needed).
Type your sub-tag in the search bar.
If it doesn’t exist, select Create tag.
Assign it to the correct primary category.
Save your changes.
Sub-tags are unique per category. (“VIP” under Pre-sale is separate from “VIP” under Announcement.)
There is no limit to how many sub-tags you can create.
How sub-tags display
When you apply a sub-tag, Hive automatically applies the parent campaign category as well.
On the campaign, you will see the sub-tag displayed, even though both the category and the sub-tag are applied.
Filtering campaigns by primary categories or sub-tags
You can filter your Email and SMS campaigns list by both primary categories and sub-tags.
Filters use OR logic, meaning a campaign will appear if it matches either the category or the sub-tag.
Note: You cannot create new sub-tags from the Filters panel - only from the campaign tag interface.
Primary categories and sub-tags in exports
When exporting campaign data, Hive now includes both the primary category and any sub-tags applied, making reporting and segmentation easier in external tools!
