If your not familiar with these models they are from Kromlech. They are amazing models. I've got another batch of Tank Busta which will give me 30 total.

After them I will start on the FW Nob Bikers.

I'm also working on an Ork Village with kits from Kronlech as well. I'll post some shots of it soon.

Blood Axe Orks using Kromlech figures

Kromlech easily has some of the best alternative orks on the market. I've been steadily building up my collection of them to form a Blood Axe army. Primarily built around the great coat orcs and tank bustas. I recently picked up this 'command squad' which includes the Warboss, Waaagh Banner, Big Mek and Weird boy. The figures are absolutely amazing, especially the warboss and waaagh banner.

Another Day Another Doug: I painted some Kromlech Juggernauts

I picked up some Kromlech Juggernauts recently to add to my existing host. They are fantastic models and dwarf the GW mega nobs. Their ramshackle construction looks great and are really fun to paint.

Bigmek - I wanted him to mimic the techmarines and tech priests of mars so I did him in read. This also helps him stand out among the sea of blue.

I'm getting pumped for the new Ork codex and expected releases. The Speed Freaks box set looks amazing, I love the new buggy! I've been painting up a load of orks lately to get my boys ready for battle.

Greetings,
It's been a LONG time since I posted anything. Not because I haven't been doing anything I just haven't had the motivation to post pics and what not. I've actually painted a number of armies over the last two years. Most recently I've been catching up on some Orks with the imminent release of the new Ork Codex.

Photobucket changed their rules about sharing pics which messed up my blog which also made it very tough to want to keep going. I may just take new pics of stuff and start over or move my pics somewhere else. UPDATE: It seems that all the old photobucket pics are again displaying.

Since Orks are my first, last and only true love (except my lovey wife and children of course) I figured I might as well post some pics. Plus I got a new photo box I want to try out. :)

20 more Mechanicum Mutants

I added another 20 mutants to the roster bringing the unit up to 30. Plus the boss. So 31 total and I still have the enforcer to build as well. I'm think I may make the enforcer some sort of servitor to administer the combat drug injections for the unit.

I'm using the Mutant rules from the Heretics and Renegades list. They are essentially conscripts with 2 close combat weapons. You can give them combat drugs which give them Rage. So 4 attacks on the charge, WS2, S3 but only 3 points a piece. They also get a 6+ save and a 6+ FNP to represent their mechanical nature. Fully decked out with the Boss with a power axe and Melta Bomb and the enforcer with a power weapon and drug injector is about 140 points. Not a great unit by any means but I still love the idea of them and finally came up with a conversion that, I think, represents them well on the table top.

The next batch of conversions got a little more work. I replaced spines with necrons spines, added some different claw hands from the Rust Stalker models and various other bits cut off from all manner of weapons and back packs. All in all I am very happy with how they turned out and it's really got me reinvigorated about conversions.

New Batch of Mutants with Some New Bits

I ordered a couple of boxes of GW Ghouls to add to my small mutant unit. I had 10 and got 20 more which I finally got time to start on yesterday. I've found some other bits for these guys by digging through my Necron sprues. I'm using the spines from the immortals on some of them. I trim them down and then bend them to fit the curvature of the ghouls hunched body. I think it looks pretty decent and will look better once I add the additional wires and what not.

I'm in need of additional Skitarri heads and Necron spines. I'd also be interested in rust stalker arms and hands from the two different builds. If you have any to part with let me know! I'd gladly buy or trade for them.

Spawn complete

Looks like I forgot to post pics of the spawn painted up. It's been a crazy 6 months so it's not too shocking. I think these guys turned out pretty good. They are always fun to convert and paint.

Slightly converted FW spawn. I replace a few of the bits that were going to easy break off or already had broken off.

As you have probably guessed, I like spawn but not the current GW spawn models. The do have some nice bits though, just not a fan of the bodies primarily I guess.

Expanded Mutants

So I really wasn't liking the direction of the mantic ghouls for the mutants. They were just too plain looking and the variety of poses was very limited. I raided my brothers bits box and 'borrowed' all him skitari bits and start hacking. This is what I wound up with. A more techno/mutant theme which I really like. I'm treating them as archaic dilapidated combat servitors.

For the mutant champion I decided to convert a chaotic tech priest of sorts. Using bits from my brother and the chaos cultist champion I hacked this fellow together. He needs some clean up work and some green stuff work but for the most part he's done.

I enjoyed making these mutants so much I decided to scrap the mantic ghouls and ordered 2 more boxes of GW ghouls. I plan to add an enforcer to the unit and I am thinking of using a scylax or something similar to represent him.

Back to Work - Fun with Mutants

It's been a BUSY last 6 months. We decided to move which meant doing a lot of work on our house to get it ready to sell. Looking at a lot of houses to find one to buy. We ended up closing on the 18th of Dec and had to be out of our house by the 20th. Endless to say it was a mad rush to get everything done. Plus we had the holidays, bdays, anniversary, packing, unpacking, sort through countless boxes to find things, doing a lot of work on the new house etc etc etc. I built a few models but nothing note worthy, just kits purchased and assembled. Some nice kits mind you but no conversions, painting or scratch building vehicles. I assembled a bunch of word bearers, squad of ashen circle, squad of world eater rampagers, skull cannon, some primarchs, iron hand bikers and some other things. However, last night I started doing a little converting. I cleaned my garage Saturday and found some of my missing hobby boxes. I've been wanting to make some 40k mutants for the renegades and heretics but have just not had the time to do it but last night I gathers some bits and worked on a few just to get an idea oh how they would go together. All in all I like them. I think they have a decent scifi/40k feel to them but also look like mutant freaks. I need 40 or 60 mutants; I can't remember which. At least I am off to a start!

These first two started out as Mantic ghouls. I added a Victoria Lamb head and a Secret Weapon backpack. One of them also has a Catachan laspistol. Simple conversion but still looks pretty decent. I didn't get a picture of their backs but they have Cadian pouches and canteens and the one on the left has an antique flintlock pistol in case his laspistol runs out of juice.

This next one, I like more, started out as a GW ghoul. I replace the head with a head from Secrect Weapon then drilled some holes in his back to add the chem-injectors; or whatever they are. I may put a sphere on the top of them; depends how it looks. I also chopped off his hand and gave him a claw hand from the Mantic ghoul set. He's got a tasy treat tied to his belt in case he get hungry in the heat of battle as well.

They still need a bit of clean up, such as mold lines and what not but all in all I like the way they came out. I think a big mixed unit of these will look sufficiently different from the renegade guard and conscripts that you will recognize they are something else.

What do you think, do the bits mesh well and provide a suitable look and feel to represent mutants of Nurgle?

Beastmen Command

I've been using gors as mutants for my Lost and the Damned army list and Chaos Cultists with the mark of khorne. I need a few more models for the unit so decided to make them a command group.

The champion has been heavily modified by a dark magos to lead the mutant herd into battle. The musician and banner bearer are wearing scavenged space marine armor on their left arms and shoulder pad. This was mostly done because I didn't have any more left gor arms. :) but looks okay in the end.

I built and painted these a while back but realized I had never taken any decent photos of them to post. So I thought I would do that since I think they look pretty cool and are build from a few different venders products.

The heads are from Puppetswar, the torsos are from Blight Wheel and the legs and arms are from Mad Robot.

I think I may go back and weather their armor a bit more

Nurgle Daemons

The khorne daemonkin list got me thinking about my nurgle army. So I wrote up a "nurgle daemonkin" list. It's really just CSM allied with Choase Daemons but it's got the same unit types and composition as the khorne daemonkin list and none of the special rules. Still, its a fun list to play so I decided to take a break from painting red and get the nurgle daemons painted up.

I plan to add another 5 plague bearers to each unit soon. I'll probably actually run them as 14 plague bearers to be fluffy. :)

WIP of some chaos spawn

I love chaos spawn. The models allow lots of creativity and painting them is great as well. So I figured I would dig some various spawn out and start swapping pieces around on ones that were duplicates or that I just didn't care for.

This is the old metal spawn. I had two of them so I decided to tear one down and add bits from the chaos spawn sprue.

The one on the left is a Forge World Fantasy chaos spawn that came with a chaos sorcerer. The model is great but its original arms and quite thin and its fingers snapped off almost instantly. So rather than have him run around with no fingers I decided to remove his arms and swap some other bits on.

The one on the right is a Kromlech spawn. I had two of them so I started adding plastic chaos spawn bits to the body.

The all still need a little green stuff work around their joints which I will get to shortly, hopefully.

Started on some plague daemons

The khorne daemonkin has reignited my interest in all things chaos. I wrote up a nurgle daemonkin army last week and played it and it was pretty fun. Essentially I followed the khorne daemonkin layout for the army. I used chaos daemons for the army and chaos space marines as allies. I did not adjust any rules though.

I had picked up the new GW color Blood for the Blood God. It's very similar to the clear red Tamiya color often used for gore.

Typhus the Herald of Nurgle

Typhus is easily one of the coolest characters in the CSM army. He's also nasty on the table top and looks great. I didn't spend a lot of time on him but enough to get him looking decent enough to use. My hobby time is pretty limited these days so I've taken to spending less time on individual models so that I can still manage to get armies painted up.

I need to get a better pic of his scythe. I used the typhus wash and some rust pigments and I think it turned out fairly cool looking.

Plauge Toads Counts as Spawn with Mark of Nurgle

I loved these toads as soon as I saw them. So cute and cuddly. The make excellent spawn of chaos with the mark of nurgle. They are a joy to paint and have so much character.

Khorne Daemonkin Lord on Juggernaut

The CSM Lord on a Jugger is really a tough character in the khorne daemonkin codex. Riding with blood crushers or spawn gives him plenty of protection and they are really fast. I wanted to make a model for the character. I bought a box of WFB skull crushers to use. I would call this a conversion because I really didn't do anything to it. I just swap out a few items to make him look slightly less fantasy and slight more sci-fi. Its nothing fancy but it was quite and easy and will serve the purpose I set out for. Once he's painted up he should fit in nicely with the rest of the murderous band of homicides.

I also took this pic with my phone so its a bit crappy. I'll get some better ones once the painted has been started.

One of My Favorite Traitor Guard Units

This is one of my favorite units. The bits go together so well. The arms and legs are from Victoria Lamb and the torsos are, of course, FW. They are not complex by the Vic bits look so good with the FW bits. The arms and legs are from the Penal Legion squad so they have shackles around their hands and feet, chains dangling from them, some are missing their shoes, etc. I'm not sure why I painted them completely different from every other unit. I guess just to be different.

Lost and the Damned Mutants

I was scratching my head for a bit trying to figure out how to make some decent looking mutants for my Lost and the Damned list. I searched for bits to buy but there really weren't a whole lot out there. So I just took lots of stuff I already had and cobbled together some mutants. I reasoned that they didn't need hands since they would surely die on the battle field. So I took to chopping their hands off and replacing them with spikes, blades, clubs, flails, etc. I used lots of bits from lots of companies and various kits to threw these guys together. They don't all match but that's okay, you can't expect a bunch of mutant freaks to have time to co-ordinate their outfits. These guys don't even have hands for crying out loud! :)

I made a few guys into chaos 'arco flagellents' in case I want to run a radical Inquisitor Lord. I already have the model just not all of his posse after I liquidated some stuff. Here they are though.

Here's the whole gang from the other figures I painted up for this merry band of degenerate freaks. A few blokes were hiding out when I took the pic so its not quite the whole gang but pretty close. If you look closely you will see a flamer or two. Mutants can't get a flamer but I thought I may use these guys as conscripts or renegades as well so I might as well model and paint up a few flamers for them; just in case.

Counts as Ratling Snipers

In my burst of painting mutants and zombies I threw in a few other units that needed to be painted but I just hadn't done it yet. One of those units were my counts as Ratling Snipers for my traitor guard. They mashed together from all sorts of bits; Empire Free Company, Ungors, Kroot, Catachan, CSM bits, SM bits and lots of other misc items.

The guy holding is gun standing up right is the boss. Ratlings don't actually have one but I wanted to make a model as if they did.

Gors as Lost and the Damned Mutants

I wanted two units of 30 mutants plus a unit of 30 zombies. I decided to be lazy on the second unit of mutants and just use Beastman Gors. I had contemplated some alternate heads and arms but monies a but tight so I didn't want to spend the money on it. I already had these figures laying around. I need to get 10 more though.

I still need to convert the mutant boss as well.

Plague zombies

I've got plague zombies in my Lost and the Damned list as well so I started on them as well. these are a mix of Puppetswar zombies and some from a Russian place I found on ebay. They mix really well. I regreat painting them red because that made it hard to paint blood and guts but I was too far along to start over. These are the first 15. I have 15 more and I am debating getting another 10.
