this is pushing a little further into the 80's than i usually like to go, but i just scored this LP out in san francisco and it hit me hard. this is pure synthesizer music fantasy scapes. i see castles and crystals and fairies when i listen to this one. i mean, if i didnt tell you this was michel genest, i could release this as a limited edition cassette and put 'ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER - ASCENSION' on the spine and it would sell out in 3 minutes...im not demeaning mr. lopatin at all here. in fact, he is one my favorite dudes around and i love his music...but here at CV we like to share the music of our predecessors / true new age warriors / heard and unheard inspirations / vibes / space musicians. giving everything a chance to exist & enjoy AS IT IS!

a lovely little gem from marc barreca. instrumental dream spaces from this seattle based musician.
synths, drum machines, kalimbas, electronics, guitars, bells, sax & field recordings all combine to create some lovely soundscapes here. fog and rain and darkness and sunshine and oceans...
reminding me of nuno canavarro, roedelius, nobukazu takemura, deuter's first album, etc.....

continuing our exploration of the great unity records new age label, this is an amazing journey conjured up by steve mclinn's ojas project from oklahoma city OK. im sure he's THE pioneer of oklahoma new age music. this great LP takes us on 2 side long rides through harp, guitars, vocals, gongs, and all manner of wonderful synthesizers. its a beautiful new age trip from beginning to end, with some of the breezy joy as Deuter's 'Celebration' album. he doesnt always make all of the right moves but the spirit is there for sure, let it flow and enjoy!

HENRY WOLFF & NANCY HENNINGS - TIBETAN BELLS II

starting with volume 2 of this all metallic resonances record. not unlike the frank perry gems we've posted here earlier, wolff & hennings concoct lovely meditative soundscapes from all manner of bells gongs chimes tibetan bowls, etc etc. one of the pieces is even composed and performed by HAMZA EL DIN!!!! there must be a grateful dead connection here, i think mickey hart mustve been involved somehow....anyhow, enjoy these tones and zones. volume 1 and 3 to follow!

second installment for swami kriya ramananda, this album is not as good as 'hymn to a new age' but it continues in the flute zones of the larkin post below. some flute some cello some electronics. nice pleasant sounds for your chakras. enjoy! (if anyone knows of other albums by s.k.r., please do let me know!)

lovely flute musings from larkin. we get 2 side long pieces here.
side A 'Emergence' has halpern-esque flute noodlings over a wonderful bed of ocean / whale sounds + a sparse synth drone by michael stearns. "The image is a butterfly awakening from the cocoon, it sits while the fluid energy fills its being from the inside out. An awareness of new form and movement emerges."
side B 'Communitizing' is a purely solo flute exploration. "The image is a butterfly in flight."

alright friends, we're back!
here is edward larry gordon's (aka LARAAJI!) debut LP before he was "discovered" by brian eno for the ambient series. this LP takes us on 2 side long zither excursions. laraaji uses some prepared zither sounds as well as more percussive sounds along with the trademark hammered zither dances and the harp like arpeggio zither bliss + a little added kalimba for good measure. all of this drenched in syrupy phasing and panning. really lovely spontaneous, intuitive pieces from a free soul.

a great record from 1979 on continuum montage. made on kevin braheny's serge synthesizer before michael bought it from him i guess. with extra vocals and hassell-esque world music samples...2 long beautiful pieces. and there are more great albums from stearns in the pipeline, among other things.
